Rise Against Hunger, Philippines is the local affiliate office of Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now). Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief agency that has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger for more than 15 years. In 2005 Stop Hunger Now established its global meal packaging program, where volunteer groups combine rice, soy, a dehydrated vegetable blend, and a vitamin composition including 23 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packets. Since 2008, Stop Hunger Now has coordinated the distribution of food and other lifesaving aid to children and families throughout the Philippines.
Rise Against Hunger not only provides meals packaged by our dedicated volunteers, but facilitates large shipments of product donations such as medical supplies, water, and food and provides cash grants to support construction projects and medical treatment clinics.
Every year, Rise Against Hunger provides millions of nutritious meals and other life-saving aid to children and families all over the world. Rise Against Hunger compliments existing development efforts in vulnerable communities by investing the meals our volunteers package in programs such as school feeding programs, orphanages, nurseries and medical clinics. Rise Against Hunger Philippines partners with government agencies, civil society organizations and the private sector around the Philippines to provide food and other life-saving aid to those in need. These partners support a variety of development programs that work with members of the community to meet their basic needs and create long-term, sustainable change.
In 2011, Stop Hunger Now United States was invited to organize meal packaging events across Malaysia and the Philippines. The success of these events helped lead to invitations by a growing number of Filipinos looking for a tangible, hands-on project to help the local hungry. With significant assistance from Stop Hunger Now Malaysia, more than 220,000 meals were packaged in the Philippines over the next two years including a 120,000 meal packaging event in Manila on November 20, 2013 to benefit Typhoon Yolanda victims.
The typhoon relief efforts pushed the Stop Hunger Now Philippines launch in to an urgent priority. In August 2014, Stop Hunger Now hired Jose ‘Jomar’ Fleras, as the Executive Director of Stop Hunger Now Philippines and in December 2014, Philippine Operation: Stop Hunger Now, Inc. became an official affiliate of Stop Hunger Now. By the end of 2014, Filipinos packaged more than 800,000 meals for people throughout the Philippines.
In 2017, Stop Hunger Now changed its name globally to Rise Against Hunger. Our new name and logo speak to our vision for the future, support our mission to create a global hunger movement, and reflect our continued growth and worldwide reach with a global brand identity. Together, we can Rise to end world hunger in our lifetime, and we are committed to growing this movement. The thousands of volunteers, partners and supporters across the globe are a critical part of our success. We can’t do it without your continued support
